San Francisco Bike Ride, June 9, 2012

I've lived in the SF Bay Area for nearly two decades now, and I only heard about this on the news this morning.

It appears every second Saturday in June for the past eight years or so, people come to San Francisco to participate in the Nude Bike Ride. Adults of all ages and fitness levels ride their bicycles, skateboard, rollerblade, rollerskate, or even walk or run in the nude along the streets of SF to protest our country's dependence on fossil fuel. From what I've read, other international cities do their own "nude bike" events throughout the year, too.

I know there's a Gay Pride parade every year, and I'm familiar with the Bay to Breakers event, though I've never seen either except on TV.

Does your city or hometown have something similar that features public nudity? In San Francisco it doesn't seem to be a big deal as along as it's in designated areas (not in city or state parks) and the occasion calls for it. Are you opposed to such gatherings of partially or fully naked people?

I asked my gay work buddy who lives in the City if he was going to attend, but he didn't give me an answer. I, on the other hand, just might show up tomorrow ... as a spectator ... or a participant.

What say you?

I love San Francisco, but it's stuff like Bay to Breakers, and Nude bike rides that makes me question that notion sometimes. I get people love to have fun and "be out there" (Not to mention we were the hippie capital of the world in the 60s) but there is a ton of weird stuff that goes on in this city.

^ I don't love or take part in all the weirdness myself - never been to the Folsom Street Fair, maybe never will - but without the weirdness, San Francisco wouldn't be San Francisco.

And really, in SF terms, B2B is as mild as the weirdness gets.

Yeah, it kind of gives San Francisco it's charm even though it flies in the face of the monicker "World Class City".

Let's not forget - Exotic Erotic Ball (also one event I've never attended or seen) and Halloween in the Castro District (which has been more subdued in recent years).
