Sam Neill, Sean Bean and Joss Ackland have joined the cast of NBC's action series "Crusoe."

The project, based on Daniel Defoe's novel, chronicles the adventures of the dashing and resourceful castaway Crusoe (Philip Winchester) and his companion Friday on a desert island while looking in flashbacks at Crusoe's life before he embarked on the ill-fated voyage.

Among the flashbacks are Crusoe's tragic childhood with widower father. James (Bean), the relationship with the love of his life, Susannah (Anna Walton), and his efforts to launch a business under the watchful eye of family friend, Jeremiah Blackthorn (Neill).

"Crusoe," written by Stephen Gallagher ("Eleventh Hour") and directed by Duane Clark ("CSI: NY"), will be filmed in the U.K., South Africa and the Seychelles.

I wasn't really planning on watching this but with these guys in it I'll check it out.:techman::techman:

My first thought was Lost: 1700.

Second thought - ABC's Lost series finale coincides with NBC's Crusoe season finale - an aged Winchester is revealed to be in control of everyting that's been happening on the island . . .

Do they really need flashbacks? Sure, they work on Lost, but there's kind of a reason for them in that show.

There will be a monster that will appear on the island in the pilot. If this gets a season 2 so called mysterious Others will be introduced to keep things fresh. ;)

I hope they dropped the idea of having anachronistic humor. :wtf:

A story about a 17th C guy, with 17th C attitudes, stuck on an island with a "primitive" and trying to survive sounds to me like enough for any miniseries without flashbacks or wink-wink nonsense.

It is a miniseries, isn't it? I can't see this working as an ongoing series, even with flashbacks. Gonna get boring.
