I wish there'd been more sam cogley novels written. Really enjoyed the character on court martial as well as the novel the case of the colonists corpse.

I didn't read that one, but it's on my list. There is a definitely a place in the Star Trek universe for a cranky, McCoy-style throwback amid all the gleaming newness of the 23rd century. Indeed, the practice of law is a more suitable occupation for such a character than is medicine, law being by definition a field beholden to tradition and resistant to abrupt change (at least in the common law systems). I would not be shocked to see Cogley show up in Strange New Worlds, for example.
