Saints Row The Third

Hell yeah! Saints Row The Third gets a confirmed release date, promo pics and plot details! Woohoo! I can't wait! http://gamerant.com/saints-row-3-release-date-images-leaked-riley-68628/ and then http://gamerant.com/saints-row-3-release-date-johnj-71225/ They seem to be going with a "tomorrow the world" thing...

And from here: http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2011/03/03/saints-row-the-third-to-feature-new-city-tank-skydiving/ we get the description:

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you.

The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of sin under Syndicate control.

Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and defend yourself against a highly-trained military force using only a sex toy in the most out-landish gameplay scenarios ever seen, igniting a city-wide war that will set Steelport on fire. Strap it on.

I cannot WAIT to strap it on

I think these games are MUCH better than GTA. Better gameplay and controls, just easier and more fun. And the story is such a hoot. Though obviously GTA is a graphically superior game with more polish and detail.

I'll take substance and gameplay over polish any day. Saints Row 2 reminded me of a time when games were actually *fun*. Remember fun?

For a game that wasn't an RPG, I got surprisingly attached to my customised character. Settled on her look pretty early on and hardly ever changed it. Think punk meets ska with the dress sense of the blues brothers...with a samurai sword...driving muscle cars...

I had my character look as much like the actual me as possible - so then it's me in a big comedy action movie thing...

Personally I prefer to stare at the backside of a comely female rather than a muscle bound cretin for hours on end :D

Female protagonist was the best part of the game because they didn't bother to rewrite the dialog for the new gender. It made for a lot of interesting dialog anyway.

^This and this. It's especially funny when she's just hanging out at a strip club and decides to glass some bloke.

Besides from all that (also leaving aside for a second the fact that I never understand the desire to play oneself in a video game) even if I were to perfectly recreate my likeness (frightening though that may be), the voice would never be right. Hell, the closest it could come was that comedic cockney take off and I am most defiantly not cockney. If it had a Worzel Gummidge voice on the other hand... ;)

I think I do it as a reaction against the sort of people I saw in a documentary about Second Life, where players were giving themselves all sorts of over-compensatory looks...

I suppose that's just wish fulfilment. But yeah, a little sad.

I tend to prefer to *create* a character the way I might draw one. Honestly the idea of investing anything of myself in them (looks or persona) just doesn't interest me. In actual fact, when I do design a character in a game (male or female) I actually tend towards less striking or "pretty" looks and go more for character. For example my SR2 female character was a skinny, almost tomboyish chick with shoulder length blue dreads and spent most of the game in a black suit with big boots and leather driving gloves. Not exactly a typical male fantasy like say Lara Croft...but she did look well 'ard with her pimp cane. ;)

I will admit though that my ME FemSheps were a *bit* on the pretty side, but in my defence that creation engine made it difficult to do female faces that didn't just look hideously ugly. By comparison SR2 was FAR more robust than just about anything else out there. I've seen some celebrity SR2 look-alikes that are just downright uncanny. As in you can absolutely recognise who they're supposed to be without needing to be told.

I will almost certainly pick up and play SR3, but I have to admit I had some problems with "The Boss" when the moral event horizon got crossed in the Brotherhood's story arc. Yeah, complete monster.

Both of my SR characters had a mobster feel to them (fedoras, finer wear). I was running around as a mustachioed white guy in the first one, and a hot asian chick in the second. While the guy had a good look, the chick definitely had more style, with a... more complicated outfit that actually had a little color and still kept the mobster feel. Interesting watching a character run down the midtown merchant district, gunning down cops with twin uzis, in heels and a full skirt.

As I recall my lady character had jeans, a pink/purple striped tube top, and short neon blue hair. She looked awesome

I've never played the Saint's Row games, but this thread has intrigued me.

I've never played them but I think it's funny how they're in the same continuity with Red Faction, having Ultor as bad guys in SR2. Also, you can find Shaundi's radio tag in RFG. LOL!

to me the saints row games are the more whacky versions of the gta series and have more of the feel of gta 3 and the like.
I mean if you can have a charater go round naked with a rocket launcher then that to me is a wierd but funny game.
