Saavik/Kirk

When I watch WRATH OF KHAN, I have always wondered if Saavik was trying to, well you know, seduce Kirk in the way girls will prance around in Bikni's on a beech with their friends, and taking turns to see if any guys are watching...

She is Spock's protege. I would think that he would have, not in detail mind you, but he would have discussed aspects of human behavor. And she is half-Romulan, as has been suggested before. And Romulan women, too me, were always hot looking and holding back their passion.

So, here she is, getting on the Turbolift, her hair down, in a nearly form fitting outfit. And, the best part, we have Kirk there who seems totally a loss for words, and I think, Obviously attracted to her.

The best part of the scene is when she gets off of the Turbolift, McCoy enters and askes if she had let her hair down, and Kirk replied "I hadn't noticed" which he most surely did. It is further proof to me that Kirk was attracted to her. And since we can only assume Kirk is the great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson of Denny Crane, any thing is possible.

This is the mighty Kirk-Man we are talking about. Seducer of a thousand (at least) babes. Had Saavik stayed around I'm sure Kirk might have made an attempt sooner or later... Ya know I'm surprised its not covered in a novel somewhere.

In a word, Yuck! Maybe 23rd century mores are different, but it's just not professional for an older superior officer to mess around with his subordinates, esp. not midshipmen subordinates. -- RR

While Kirk did have a reputation for tapping anything with a pulse, I mean this is a guy who enters a room and the fish stop swimming, you have to remember that at this point of the movie Kirk was feeling 'old'. In his mind he is old enough to be her father (although with her blood line she may actually be older than him) so does he see her as attractive? Sure. But he likely feels like he's past the point to even consider making a play for her (I think that might be the point of the scene...Kirk looking at her with the thought of 'if I was 20 years younger I'd sooooo tear that appart'.). Although I do find it interesting how he continued to 'impress' her with tricks of the trade that weren't "by the book". But by the point in the movie where he feels 'young again' Carol is back in the picture so his chance was blown.

I think Saavik is trying to get Kirk's attention. As her superior and one of her instructors, she is trying to gain his approval, and no just as a cadet. Was she trying to seduce him? Not really. Did she want him to notice her? Yes.

You must be a woman with a responce like that...

I think the only reason that scene was the way it was, is because Nicky had the hots for Alley.

I think that also has something to do with his refusal to work with Curtis.

Nope. But I was dating them for 10 years and have been married for the last 10 , so I'd like to think I know a thing or two about them. :)

The scene was shot at least two ways: the two-shot version we see in the theatrical, VHS/DVD and DVD DE releases, and the series of intercut closeups, as featured in the old ABC TV presentation. In the TV version, Saavik and Kirk are giving obvious hints of mutual attraction.

When I interviewed Paul Winfield, before the film was released, he made mention of Alley and Shatner getting along in a way totally opposite to how they got along in the film, which we took to mean that Shatner probably made a proposition (which Marcy Lafferty didn't know about) and Alley turned him down. ;)

Or, knowing her, she began to throw her weight around...

Shatner put the moves on Kirstie and this is why she wouldn't return for the sequels. She let that out in an interview not long ago.

May Shat shoud try to book her on his new show so that they could have it out once and for all......Sumo style.

Well, for all we know, Shatner had an open marriage. I think Heather Locklier would have something to say about that too...

I have heard nothing about this. Do you mean Meyer or Shatner refused to work with Curtis? And why?

It's extremely rare that a piece of ST goss from the '80's comes up I dion't know about, so I'd be very interested to know.
