S5 Latent Image - Kes?

Watched this the other day but missed quite a bit and as I understand the possible real world reason why Jennifer Lien wasn't there but what do you suppose the reason was for Kes not being in the flashback scenes as they were said to have happened 18 months ago, before Seven came aboard?

Also do you suppose it would've made any difference had Kes been there where Kes could've worked with the Doctor on Harry and Paris could've worked on Jetal with an assistant Medic with the Docs guidance?

Did a quick search for the past year on posts I've made and I can't find anything similar, although I do admit I think I have made duplicate posts in the past.

However, too answer your question. I assumed Kes was on an away- mission. Her duties also included helping Neelix with supplies for the gally and her hydroponics bay. Also Kes wouldn't be much help even if she were there. Kes was only schooled at the time to be a nurse, not a surgeon.
