S-F Influences ON GR

GR to me is like Henry Ford, a great synthesizer and a man right with his times. He was a liberal guy in the 60s writing optimistic stuff dealing sometimes with social issues.

I am curious about influences/borrowings from other writers/thinkers you can detect. I hear in GR a lot of Theodore Sturgeon, who of course wrote for the show. I hear his overall humanity and his emphasis in several of his books/stories about next steps in evolution, especially social organsms or gestalts. "We are a child race," I think GR would or did phrase it. That reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke and Childhood's End, big-time, too.

So "who" else was influencing GR, do you think?
