Sad day for Rush fans (and anyone who’s ever air-drummed a drum solo). Neil Peart died today.

Neighbour is blasting Rush tunes right now. Ordinarily I’d be annoyed but as a decades long fan who wore out three vinyl copies of Moving Pictures in high school, I might just join him.

I am stunned.

Rush was the soundtrack of my life. I saw them 14 times in concert and each time was like a religious experience.

I made friends With other Rush fans from all over the world traveling to shows...

I’m sure I’ll have something more coherent to say later. Normally I don’t get overblown about celebrity passings, but this one is a punch to the gut.

:weep:

Me, too.

I always wanted to ask you if your name is from The Body Electric.

Just finished my eleventy-millionth lifetime listen of Moving Pictures. Now listening to A Show of Hands. Signals up next in the queue.

The lyrics to Limelight perfectly summarize Neil's views on fame (and make an excellent critical commentary on shallow pursuits thereof).

Last time I saw them was in 2010 with about 90,000 other fans on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. It was my bachelor's party (got married 3 weeks later). As far as I know, it was the only time they ever played Moving Pictures in its entirety (in album order) live. I'll be watching my Blu-ray of The Time Machine Tour as soon as I can re-install the projector in my home cinema (it deserves the big screen and 5.1 surround).

I was crushed when I first heard the news. I, like many others here, grew up with RUSH as a big part of my life. Growing up in Buffalo, NY, RUSH was a main stay of the airwaves. I’ve seen them more than a dozen times over the years and Neil was a force of nature behind the drum kit. Precision, clean, full of variety and soul... The world has lost a legend.

*Raises a Molson*.

All the worlds a stage and we are merely players....

Decided to get nice and toasted and put in Rush in Rio.

Earthshine...

How about Rush kicking the crap out Distant Early Warning...

R.I.P. to the best drummer ever. Moon, Bonham and several others are right up there, but Neil absolutely needed those massive, circular drum kits.

IDK if this was the real reason he retired, but he sure kept it quiet. And that's good. We don't need to know every little detail of someone's life.
