I don't run with music, but my roommate does. One of the songs he likes is Millionare by Queens of the Stone Age.

I listen to the ocean waves as I only run on beaches.
Hey, I would do that, too, if I lived by the ocean. Not all of us have that luxary. :p

Here's my playlist:

Blue States - Season Song
Massive Attack - Angel
Servant - Cells
Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For?
Kylie Minogue - I Believe in You
Madonna - Love Profusion
Nelly Furtado - Explode
Nelly Furtado - Try

Brilliant! I wish I had thought of that. I think I'm going to have to do that the next time I go running...

I'm not much of a runner, but when I ride my mountain bike I generally take a long a CD or two. Should make a CD of songs to listen later for it.

What an awesome thread! I only run on the treadmill at the gym, but the ipod definitely keeps me motivated. Finding fast paced songs with the right rythm is difficult though! The gym themselves do play some good music. It sounds bizarre but the song "Another hole in the head" by Nickelback is an awesome song to run to :)

^ yeah cause nickelback encourages people to run...away (Canadian biased against them I guess) :p

I dont run...yet. However I do walk a lot and instead of walking/doing stairs with upbeat music playing I tend to listen to a lot of Matthew Good who tends to be too mellow for a lot of peoples tastes. I listen to a lot of alternative and punk as Im doing it. As long as it's music I enjoy it helps keep me going, especially with the stairs.

We obviously listen to very different music, but if you were looking for something new, country has had a good selection in recent years. In particular, Big & Rich, Cowboy Troy, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, and Gary Allan are all great choices. If you would be interested, I can list some of my good running songs for you to look up.

Kind of interesting to see someone mention Big & Rich and even Cowboy Troy in this thread. Most country music fans hate them, and there's not a bunch of country music fans on this board. Just kind of surprising to see them mentioned, in a running thread no less.

Ach, a good chunk of their songs have good beats to run to and a lot of them are just plain good for keeping me distracted.

I agree, even though I find it amusing if someone was running to the Cowboy Troy classic "I play chicken with the Train" ;)

I run to music. I has to be either dance/trance stuff, or stuff with a heavy beat - Meat Loaf, Guns n Roses, Queen, Thin Lizzie, Motorhead - that kind of thing. I really need the music to encourage me, and I pace my time by the songs, too. If I can't run to music I really suffer as I rely on it.

The songs I posted are only what I listen to while running. I wouldn't take it as an accurate representation of all my musical tastes. A lot of what I listen to is terrible for working out, e.g. Television, Waylon Jennings, Sigur Ros, Townes Van Zant, The Gourds

Hillbilly Shoes - I had that on my list a while back, but forgot to put it back in the rotation; thanks for the reminder. As for Garth Brooks, i put Ain't Goin Down Till the Sun Comes Up on my Ipod sometimes.
