I don't understand why, after running from the Vengeance, Kirk chose
to take the Enterprise racing back all the way from Kronos to Earth, instead of stopping at a Federation location closer to his immediate location - the Federation has many member worlds, space stations, and starbases between Earth and the Klingon homeworld, and I would imagine that there had to be at least some watch posts near the Klingon border. Marcus had confronted Kirk and demanded he turn over Harrison to the Vengeance, yet Kirk chose to flee the scene, to make sure Harrison got a fair trail, and to expose Marcus' plot to stop a war - but wait! Communications are down on the Enterprise, so we can't warn the Federation ... so, wouldn't the most logical plan be to race to the nearest Federation world or starbase that had communications abilities, so that Kirk could warn Starfleet, and ask for reinforcements? Why head all the way back to Earth - to use a metaphor, if a patient is in an emergency situation, you take them to the nearest emergency room. If Kirk's plan was that Marcus would never fire on the Enterprise with witnesses to see, well then, shouldn't Kirk's goal have been to get to ANY Federation world with the abilities to communicate and offer reinforcements???
