Rumor: Josh Lucas as Pike?

Jensen Ackles for Pike!
While he's a HITG! for sure, he's no star which belies the rumors that Abrams is shopping around for an 'A'-lister to play the Pike role.
^ Agreed Lucas is definitely not a star and I say that if JJ is not going to cast an A-lister then he should go with who he already knows - Matthew Fox from Lost.
I still think Tom Hanks should play Pike.
Hmmm, I'm lukewarm at best on this. He's a decent actor, but I don't see him as the inspiring captain for whom Spock would risk court-martial and death. Lucas specialises in playing slightly smarmy, untrustworthy guys. I don't really see him as the buttoned, somewhat haunted man of integrity that Pike seemed to be in the glimpses we got of him.
Maybe Lucas is able to play those qualities and just hasn't had the chance to do so yet, but I'm wary. He'e more in the vein of fellow Josh, Mr Holloway, when, as someone said, they should be going for someone like Holloway's Lost co-star Matthew Fox.

I thought he did great as the sympathetic friend in "A Beautiful Mind" once he became the head of the school. At first, yeah, he was his normal smarmy self, but after we shifted time down the road and we saw his character mature, I thought he had a wonderful quality that he could totally bring to the role of Pike.

I remember seeing him in Sweet Home Alabama and for months afterwards, I thought I had seen Matthew McConnaghey. Was a bit of a surprise when I found out otherwise. 
I don't hate the idea. But after our other thread I've got really into the idea of having Ben Browder as Pike. I just really think that would work - he'd have the maturity both age wise in universe and acting experience wise in real life to be the 'father figure' authoritative loyalty-inspiring captain the role will seem to entail. I think he could portray someone who is a hero and inspires loyalty from Spock but at the same time is showing signs of the worry and slightly more broody personality of Pike in 'The Cage'.
^ That's no lie there, especally the first part. I'm wondering if J.J. can't get any 'A' lister as we call them, that they wouldn't want to do Trek (though I'm sure Hanks would love to) or the price to get them is more than all the latinum they have in the budget. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
Lucas has always struck me as the smarmy, mean ex-husband type. I don't see him fitting in as Pike.
Where are the "Pike will teach them to play basketball onboard an Enterprise that's sinking to the bottom of the ocean because the AI went nuts and turned Scotty's imaginary friend into a giant green monster" comments? 
On a side note, anyone who's played Wing Commander III has seen Josh Lucas before.
