Roxette - don't bore us, get to the chorus!

I think Roxette formed around the same year I was born, and I was about 15 or so before I was really aware of who they were. I'd heard a lot of their radio hits beforehand, but it was only around that time that I actively started seeking out their material.

I have to say my personal favourite tracks are 'Almost Unreal,' and 'Spending my Time,' but pretty much all of their chart hits and album fillers are still awesome today. Is there anything more suhweet than hours and hours of catchy pop hooks? :D

So any Roxette fans around these parts? Has anyone seen them live, or know what they're up to these days?

Hello, you fool, I love you.......

I still LOVE Roxette and break out the "Don't Bore Us" CD every now and then. I loved them back in Spring 1989 when I heard "The Look" and just continued to love every song from "Dressed For Success," "Listen To Your Heart," and "Dangerous". I finally got Look Sharp on tape for my birthday in 1990. Then, I had the cassette single for "It Must Have Been Love" and wore that single out. I then got Joyride on tape and loved just about every song on the cassette. There are some great songs that were never released as singles, including "Perfect Day," "The Big L" (at least in America), and "Things Will Never Be The Same." I then had the cassette single of "Almost Unreal." I remember when McDonald's had a sample CD for Crash! Boom! Bang! and I bought it. I was not as impressed as their previous stuff and did not buy the full CD. In 2001, I was wanting some Roxette and as I did not have a cassette player in my car, I went and bought the CD for Don't Bore Us, Get To The Chorus. It was filled with such great songs! My all time favorite Roxette songs include most of the singles but "Perfect Day" is still one great song.

Roxette was a fine pop band that enjoyed an amazing amount of success in a short period. I wonder what happened to them after 1992, when the hits stopped in the USA. Anyway, I've got three of their albums and I plan to catch up on some of their later releases.

There were, like, 3 versions of "Listen To Your Heart", if I remember. An almost acoustic version, a more guitar-y version and one with a lot more sax.
It depended on what radio station was playing the song.

Hmm, I didn't know that.

Does anyone know of any artists who have covered any Roxette songs? I can't seem to find any, yet I'd imagine there've been some...

About three years ago there was a cover of "Listen To Your Heart" by a group called D.H.T. I remember my brother calling me to listen to it. The group had a version with just a singer and the piano and then an all-dance version. I am unaware of any other Roxette covers.

My auntie used to play Roxette all the time when she used to babysit me in the late eighties / early nineties. I'd have to say if I made a list of my Top 20 songs that 'Dangerous' would be in there somewhere.

I'll never admit to being a Roxette fan. :shifty:

I think the overplay of "It Must've Been Love" killed their US career. I'd say the TOURISM country version of it was . If I ever heard it, which I didn't. :shifty:

OK, I could have written that word for word!   I had the same albums on tape, and I even bought a bunch of the cassette singles because of the B-sides. "The Sweet Hello, The Sad Goodbye," the B-side for "Spending My Time" is still one of my favorite Roxette songs.

I finally got "Crash! Boom! Bang!" a couple of years ago when I got some of their more recent albums. The recent stuff is good, but not as good as the older stuff. Joyride and Tourism are probably my favs of the vintage stuff.

"Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus!" is a great collection. I love it. They also released "The Ballad Hits" and "The Pop Hits." Both are great collections.

For the completist (yes, I am one  ), "The Rox Box," a box set, was released like a year and a half ago. Four Discs + a DVD--lots of material. Some of the demos are fantastic. Both Per Gessle and Marie Fredricksson both released solo CDs. I have Per's but not Marie's.

Another fan here - got all six of their studio albums (plus the 'Tourism live album). They haven't released any new albums since 2001's 'Room Service', in part because Marie had some major health issues in 2002-3 (which fortunately she's made a full recovery from). They have worked together more recently though, and released a couple of singles as part of the promotional campaign for their most recent compilation album in the autumn of 2006. Per's also been recording solo material and working with his former band Gyllene Tider back in his native Sweden.

Another Roxette Fan here!

I highly recommend seeking out the "Rarities" collection. There is a lot of otherwise never released stuff like remixes, live recordings, demos and not to forget a couple of the MTV session songs on there. Took me forever to get it, but it was worth the import from Asia :-D

Also Per's most recent solo project "Son of a Plumber" is reeeaaaly good.
imagine the Roxette sound combined with a certain Beatleness.
