ROV Training This Week

So, once again into the well. The thesis on the system is done and the MS is in my pocket. The contract is in place and the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) has been built and is waiting for me and others to arrive. This mid-sized work ROV (2m x 2m x 1.5m)is going to be used for picking objects off the bottom and in a really nice place next spring. I am really looking forward to the training this week. I'll be driving down to a big east coast city for the training, where blue crabs and crab cakes are a staple. The hardest part of the training will be standardizing the check lists that will be needed for the field op, but that is not a real big deal. Back home on Friday. I'll post a few photos later this week.

Sorry for the delay, I didn't take my transfer line for my Samsung phone (wierd transfer line). Here are some of the photos I took. It was a pretty gruellling week. I also doctored some of the photos to keep some of the details out. When the ROV was put together at the manufacturer's shop they hadn't mounted manipulators, cameras or anything else we ordered on our own. Most of the work last week dealt with finding faults, schematics and wiring diagrams. The mounting of the equipment and making sure everything functioned was also time consuming. Not much time in the classroom. Most of the time was spent in the 90 degree (F) warehouse working with hardware. On the upside the ROV went into the water on Sunday and did "swimmingly". Those ROV techs really know their stuff and are jacks of all trades. An EE would be at home with this kind of work.
