RottenTomatoes' Tim Ryan reviewing all 10 movies, one per day.

Messianni mentioned this in another thread, but I thought it deserved its own thread. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Tim Ryan is watching all ten Star Trek movies, one per day, and he is reviewing each one. So far, he has covered Star Trek: TMP and Star Trek 2: TWOK.

Cool thanks for the info!! I am looking forward to reading these.

Someone else also posted a review of all 10 movies on a blog too. Let me see if I can find the link.(edit: Oh it was in the same thread the OP mentioned. Here is that link too for those who did not see it: http://blog.nola.com/mikescott/2009/04/the_enterprise_approaches_vger.html and then click on each film at the bottom.)

He has reviewed the movies up through Generations now. He feels this movie was too impenetrable to a non-Trekkie such as himself, who is unfamiliar with the Next Generation characters. While reading his take on it, I kept thinking, "Yeah, but Trekkies hated it too." I'm nearly alone in my love for the seventh film. Oh well.

Hmm I just read his review for Generations and I am not sure what he expected in regards to introducing the crew. TNG was a HUGELY popular tv series and it would have been a waste of time when this movie was released to spend alot of time introducing the characters as if they had never been seen before IMO. I dont remember TMP spending alot of time introducing the characters as if no one had ever heard of them but he did not complain about that.

Well, I'd say at least the plot surrounding Data and the emotion chip must have been mighty confusing for anyone not familiar with TNG and Data in particular. Where does the chip come from? Why not implant it earlier - or why was he not equipped with it from the beginning? These questions are obvious for a TNG-fan, but not for someone new to this crew.

Also the bit about Picard's grief might come a bit out of the blue for someone new to TNG - not his grief about his family, but his regret about not having a family of his own. Etc

And who the hell is that Guinan and what's her connection to Picard that she would appear in his nexus-fantasy?!? Again, throughout the course of TNG we got some inkling as to what was going on, but someone new to TNG might be quite lost.

I think FC would have made a far better introductory TNG-movie than GEN ever was - because GEN didn't introduce the TNG-crew to the big screen as much as be the setting for some sort of contrived captains' meeting... Everything else was unimportant, including a believable plot, and sadly, it shows.

For what it's worth, I rather enjoyed Generations. It's not my favorite, but I thought it was a pretty solid movie on the whole with a lot of fun character moments.

Agreed. Generations and TMP are both kind of designed for the fans far more than a general audience.

Today Tim Ryan posted the last three TNG movie reviews so he has now reviewed all 10 movies! He really liked First Contact, and surprisingly he also liked Insurrection quite a bit. He will be reviewing Trek 11 later this week too.
