Rose Tyler.

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral

I'm watching the new Yank redeffinition of Life on Mars. Sam Tyler's Mom has been renamed from Ruth to Rose... What a *&*^ing liberty.

Some one is taking the piss.

No, someone's making an in-joke.

You do realize that Sam got his last name from Rose Tyler, yes? The creator of Life on Mars (whose name I am blanking on at the moment) was trying to figure out the character's last name, and he asked his daughter, who said, "How about 'Tyler'?" And it turned out, she chose the name because of Rose Tyler.

As I was watching the episodes I said 'There's something weird with the woman's name...' and then I was like 'Oh...' :)

Just imagine an epic crossover between Doctor Who and the American and British versions of Life on Mars. The Doctor teams up with two time travelling detectives, one who is really the Master with his memories wiped and is posing as a detective (like he did when he became Professor Yana, or the Doctor did when he became John Smith), the other who turns out to be Rose's son. Holy shit, maybe that's one of the 09 specials.

RTD- YES!

i had the same reaction when i heard "rose tyler" lol. small world.

though i've not seen the uk version yet (as it hasn't finished downloading) i rather like life on mars (us version i've seen) even though i thought i wouldn't because i don't really like anything based on 70s stuff. i gave it a chance and i like it. i wonder if i'll like the uk version too. i'm just afraid that i wouldn't get the 70s cultural references as much as i do with the us version.
