Ron Moore and DS9

To what extent did RDM influence, or shape, the overall story-arc of DS9 once he became a producer of the show?

From what I gather... between Moore and Behr, Behr was the more responsible for the overall direction of the show.

Yeah, that's what I gathered as well. Behr does the overall direction while Moore connects the A-to-B.

I'd just like to say that even though Moore is considered the brainchild of new BSG, I think that's also how he operates the show as well. Obviously he has tons of input, but he likes working on the intracacies with just a basic map out there to guide the staff. (I could be, however, horribly horribly mistaken. I just recently got into the show!)

By Season 4, Behr, Wolfe, Moore, Beimler, and Echevarria all had some kind of producer credit. (Wolfe left at the end of Season 5, while the rest stayed until the end.) Behr was the showrunner, and Moore had no more influence than any of the others in that group, AFAIK.

Moore brought the religion stories and Siskos role as the Emissary back to the forefront when he joined in season three. He felt they were being left behind.

^ I also think he was a big driver behind anything in the show related to the Klingons. To Ron Moore, Klingons R Us. ;)

The DS9 Companion has Behr claim that René Echevarria was the guy pushing for the Emissary stories more:

DS9 Companion said:
"I don't know if Rick [Berman] and Michael [Piller] had any idea that the Emissary concept they established [in the pilot episode] was going to grow into the thing that it did," says Behr. "I have to give René Echevarria credit for it, because he was very much into these stories and he pushed for them."

Echevarria was the writing staff's strongest advocate for shows like "Destiny" and "Accession"...

Speaking of the DS9 Companion, I ordered it from Barnes and Noble who in turn ordered it directly from the publisher. They said they'd e-mail me when it's available for me to come pick up.

It's been nearly a month. Wonder if I'll ever see it... It's next to impossible to find now.

^^^ A shame since it has a wealth of info about how each episode came about. It answers so many questions that people ask here about who did what behind the scenes.

I've got the knockoff, 'The Trekker's Guide to DS9'. It's not bad but I suspect it's lacking compared to the DS9 Companion.

Damn B&N! :(

I got it secondhand from an Amazon.co.uk "Marketplace" seller a few months back for ~£30. Worth the cash. (Isn't it out-of-print now? If so, you'll never get it from the publisher...)

I've got a phobia for used books. But it sounds like I may need to get over it if I ever want a copy. :(
