Romulan Runabout - WIP

Based on my White Falcon ship of a couple/few years back, I decided on a Romulanized version. Thinking of the exploits of the Fenris Rangers, Elnor and the Qowat Milat, I wanted a small, very fast, well armed ship suitable for a range of missions. It has a width that is similar to a Federation runabout, but with double the length with the nacelles out farther and attached by two "wings" on each side, as many Romulan ships have.

Adding Close In Weapons Systems (CIWS). 2 -4 of these will be installed. Each has a rotary rail cannon ("gatling") and 8 anti-air missiles in two pods with four missiles each.

Aside from these, it will have 4 disruptor canon and 4 micro-plasma torpedo launchers (2 each of both, located fore and aft). Here is our CIWS.

I love that detail…similar to the “battleship Enterprise fake-out pre-09’

Yes! I went looking for something like that after you said that, and there is one image that is interesting.

I had been looking at the ideas for armed, Project Orion ships of the 20th Cent. What they ended up doing in the 2009 Enterprise was est that the ship does have far, far more guns than it used to seem like it did, but that they are ordinarily encased in the hull and pop up to fire. That is similar to the thought of the Project orions:

They have missle silos, naval gun turrets and CIWS with all carried in the smooth main hull lines.

Added two gun turrets on the topside. Each holds a single 8"/203mm gun. At the bow are two 5"/127mm guns on the top, and two phaser/disruptor canons. In these pics they are added to the non-Trek White Falcon 50m light freighter/privateer/gunship.

Yes it is! Thank you!
I got to work with it briefly once, but not enough to really get beyond "This is a box that I took a box shape chunk out of" but I really liked what I saw of the interface compared to Blender which just hurt my brain. The turrets give it a cool PT Boat type look to it.

I was concerned that the smooth lines of the ship (I am fanatically anti-greeble) would be ruined. But it works. I never liked "phaser strips". I preferred the phaser cannons prior to that, and like the gun turrets even more. Same goes for missiles with a visible propulsion system vs the torpedo "coffins" that they use.

Ive been looking at naval corvettes, patrol boats, torpedo boats, "fast attack craft", gun ships, etc for inspiration for this project, and PT Boat certainly is consistent with that. That's what I am going for. Some of these lil boats are packed to the gills with firepower, esp given their size.

I'd be curious to see what your take on a starship-ified Zumwalt destroyer would look like :D

The ship is supposed to be able to land, but I needed to add some guns to the underside. So I decided to add smaller, flatter turrets to the bottom, each with two 90mm/3.54" guns.
