Role of Scotty cast?

I believe the Sunday Mirror had it first, actually. :)

We picked up the Mirror's story around 1:30 or 2 a.m. ET last night.

the mirror was the first, although the wire version of the story seemed to have more detail. trekmovie.com didnt cover the story until we could talk to his people who had denied the last rumor. At first they said they didnt know if it was true or not so we ran with just that....then an hour after we ran the story they called back to say it wasnt true. I did hear from someone it 'might be true' but not sure how reliable, and the publicist seemed firm in their denial

in general if something is reported in the brit tabloids it should be taken with a grain or more of salt.

last week they were blatently just repeating (and embellishing) tom cruise and russel crowe internet rumors just so they can run tom cruise and russell crowe stories.

Expect more tabloid stories over the next month. Due to the NSA level of secrecy at Bad Robot the void is being filled with these types of stories.

I dunno ... the one reason why you only see a lot of news places contact the "people" of actors in negotiations is out of formality than anything else, Anthony.

I'm glad you did it, but the one reason why you don't see other outlets jumping on that is because what answer would you expect? There is no way that any actor (well, any actor who wants a future in Hollywood) is going to jump out in front of any official announcement and make that announcement themselves. And to be honest, if you got a "no comment" back, that reads in terms of people's minds as a confirmation. So they instead deny it, and if they are ever pressed about the original denial down the road, they can simply say, "Well, what we said is that a deal wasn't finalized" or something like that.

But who knows. I'm with you about what the tabloids say, and why we always make sure we print it with a grain of salt. But they usually don't sound THAT definitive, do they?

Who knows. I guess we'll see. :)

Its an un-ending circle. The papers over here in the UK are printing internet rumour as fact. The internet then takes these stories and posts them as true, assuming that it comes from a "trusted" source. Then the newspapers take the internet stories and print them, causing the internet to take these stories and...

It'll never end until people realise that the British press doesnt really have the quality stamp that say, the BBC has. I wouldnt trust any news story unless it had been on the BBC first.

Or Trekmovie ;)

Good actor, this would work for me. I doubt the validity of this rumour but it certainly doesn't sound ridulously untrue either.

He strikes me as an odd choice for the role, from both sides of the negotiating table.

-He's physically the wrong type for Scotty, too short and slightly built.

-His "serious" film career is going along nicely, and he's getting cast in decent roles. He's not small-fry enough to see a second-banana role in a big sci fi film (yes, it's likely to be big) as a step up and not a big enough name that he can just regard the whole thing as a lark that will have no impact on his career. If I were an agent, I'd strongly advise against taking a role on a movie like Star Trek - maybe, if he were playing Kirk or Spock but not Scotty!

Those sonsabitches over at Wikipedia threatened to permanently ban me from the site if I mentioned McAvoy ever again, so somebody else had better put it in...

<a href="www.jamesmcavoy.com/" target="_blank">James McAvory's Website </a> is reporting that he has accepted the role.

not they are not reporting...again they are 'repeating' reporting from other sites. That site is a fan site and not an official cite, they are just reporting the mirror article

so far there has been one (count it ONE) article. Every single article you have seen on the web about this has been citing that one single article as the source

if I am wrong...please send me a link to a new source I would love to see it

It looks like the fan site is gone now, anyway. Edit: It's back.

I swear, PTM, thank God for TrekMovie and rumor control. :D

by the way...as i said in my earlier article...I would not be surprised if McAvoy ends up with a part in this film. But for now it is being denied and the dozens of articles are all just based on one dubious mirror article.

hopefully we will know more soon

You know, he'd make a great Kirk. He's a terrific actor he just doesnt really have the look.

What about Gary Mitchell? That could work. Anthony, any word on whether he is in the script?
