Roland Emmerich's '2012' Becoming a TV Series

Interesting... shouldn't they wait to see if the film does well first?

IMDB:
Roland Emmerich, the director/producer of the apocalyptic film 2012 (opening Nov. 13), confirmed to EW exclusively that a small-screen version of the end-of-the-world movie is already in the works. Emmerich said there was "plenty to do in a TV show" and that 2012 executive producer Mark Gordon - who's also an exec producer on TV shows like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice - would be attached. "The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster," Emmerich told EW while walking the red carpet for the 2012 premiere Tuesday. "It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating.

Very strange....

Ugh.

I'm as interested in seeing disaster pornography as most people, but who in their right mind would think that such a series would maintain any kind of interest?

So will this show take place a couple of years later. John Cusacks character(He's named JACKSON!) will be played by another actor who will crack jokes every two minutes.

This is Roland Emmerich we're talking about. Not the most reliable source in the world--especially when it comes to his projects.

maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving

That quote alone ....gah the pain it burns.....why does it burn? The idea of someone actually surviving exposed on an island while the crust and mantle of a planet moved....or would be safe in a boat...*boggles*

This mentality soooo explains the awfulness that was Godzilla 98....oh boy.

I can't stand the advertisements for the movie. Now, we're going to have to deal with advertisements for the tv show...? :scream:

My problem isn't that they're doing it. My problem is that in his interviews, he completely spoils the ending. When I go in for an Emmerich movie, I'm not going for high cinema, I'm going for cheesy popcorn disaster flick. I don't wanna know that people are going to survive. Sheesh.

:wtf:

Seriously?!? From the promos alone, 2012 is very obviously a popcorn movie: a special effects-laden, action-packed two hours with very unscientific "fringe science" around it with an uplifting and inspiring ending. It'd be a pretty bad popcorn movie if there were absolutely no survivors.

'2012' TV Series early development- NOT greenlit

I believe the fans of the cancelled CBS show "Jericho".
I watched both seasons on DVD via Netflix.
With the Exec.Prod. mentioned I wonder if they are going after the soapy relationship elements or more of the adventure story ideas that 'Jericho' explored... Would this be for CBS, NBC, or something like FX or TNT networks? What kind of pilot would they do?
Would the visual effects on the pilot look like the pilot of 'Jericho' or look like a TV movie-of-the-week (no better than 'Jericho').

On a reverse related note "Jericho" may try to do a feature film on a national level (instead of a small Kansas town level)
SciFi wire had the story:
http://scifiwire.com/2009/01/is-a-jericho-movie-in-the-works.php

Something tells me a '2012' TV series would be similar to that idea a serialized story on a multi-city level ala season 1 of "Heroes".

I think Armageddon could work as a TV series. Just think of the potential -- a different asteroid is heading for earth every week! One can be the son of the original asteroid out for revenge. How about a haunted asteroid? An asteroid made out of chocolate? An asteroid made out of cheese! A hypnosis asteroid. A computer virus asteroid! A time-traveling asteroid could bring back Bruce Willis' character!

This is why I LOATHE all of Emmerich and Devlin's shit.

Now that the American Godzilla has been brought up, I have to say, that would have been a fairly decent movie if it had ended the first time Godzilla was defeated. The subsequent stuff with the baby Godzillas felt like a Jurassic Park rip-off, and Godzilla returning for a final showdown was too much.

Well, Stargate was an Emmerich movie and look at the show that came from that.

Yeah, we have literally decades of mediocrity to look forward to. :rommie:

So...why don't they just bring back Jericho instead of trotting out more end of the world shows (Day One for instance)? All end of the world shows are pretty much like every other, but Jericho at least had a nifty latter-day Civil War scenario to add a new angle.

The Asteroid turns out to be a Good Asteroid and has to save Earth from its Evil Clone Asteroid.

So it's like Earth2, only on...Earth?

Marian

Almost my exact thoughts. However I was thinking...

So it's like Earth2, only on...Earth and bad?

I see this being made into a TV show as likely as his Stargate 2 and 3 being made. The guy is nuts.

I also hate so called Zilla series, but the cartoon series that followed was awesome!
