This looks stunning. Like a big, big, big budget expansion of the TOS/TMP world made in 1980, but with a tiny hint of Into Darkness too (that city with the groundcars)
This alone is worth it.
Are there any plans for the VR elements to be publically accessible in the future (a la the Roddenberry Museum on Sensar) or is it strictly for convention goers?Sorry - just got back from ST:LV56 and seeing the above. Happy to answer any followup questions I can in more detail - we did in total 2 hours of talks on this project ( https://twitter.com/TrekMovie/status/1562940376712810496 ) as well as Q&A - there's a lot of parts to discuss.
There are 3 core elements to the Roddenberry Archive mission:
1) Preservation of materials, testimony, documents and artifacts
These include the years of work scanning in documents, objects, uniforms and film form the Roddenberry archives (physical to digital), and more recently interviews with cast and crew who worked on the show - essentially an extension of the Roddenberry vault work that originated in 2016 on BluRay. Here are some recent ones posted last week to the YT channel:

2) Virtual walk throughs of the sets and scenes as they were filmed and as they were "in-universe".

We see this as a long term project that will cover all the key eras of Roddenberry's work, chronologically, with the Cage sets now done and explorable (via a TV and XBOX controller at ST:LV, but other formats like holographic displays and AR in the future).

3) Visualizations as holographic media
We also want to populate these virtual sets with characters and important historically relevant scenes form the universe of Roddenberry both from what was filmed (TV/movies) - and also from the printed page (i.e Star Trek is.., Planet of the Titans, Phase II, TMP novel + pocket novels that followed, ST:EV, ST:IDW), to the best of our ability.
We started on that work with the Cage, bringing in performers for Colt, and more recently Spock, and the two concept videos we put out are explorations of the "Ship of Theseus" versions of the characters and their storylines, just as we are doing for the Enterprise,

If the archive allows you to see moments in the history of these characters portrayed in the cage and beyond, then we also show parallel stories (in case of Colt, outside of the Cage, we mostly have ST:EV and IDW Pike's log to go on) that feed into and out of the filmed materials (or in cases like the TMP novel, extend it with information relevant to the creator in that moment in time).
When I get more time, I can share some BTS and other info that might expand more on the above.

Because walking around an Enterprise THAT detailed in VR, or walking around 23rd century San Francisco would be something akin to a religious experience.
My apologies. It's clear now you are doing detailed work and I think it's important that anything like this is preserved. I get it now.
Amen!This alone is worth it.
I am hoping to see this someday on a huge interactive holographic display thing. That would be a sight to behold.
