Robin Hood: Grade and Discussion (Spoilers!!!)

Didn't see one of these threads so I decided to start one. If someone wants to start a better one, be my guest.

Just got back from seeing Robin Hood and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I liked it a hell of a lot more than Iron Man. Ridley Scott has always been one of the best visual directors alive and proves it again here. Everything looks real. I'm sure there was some FX somewhere but you can hardly tell and as a result, it's easily more effective than your big special effect films.

The cast was excellent, the story was engaging, and it even had some humor. A standout was Oscar Issac as Prince John. Also nice to see Kevin "Martin Keamy" Durand as Little John and Scott Grimes as Will Scarlett. Definitely a good prequel to the legend of Robin Hood.

Only downside...there's a ton of mumbling among the actors, making it difficult to hear what is being said. Russell Crowe is clearly the star, his screen time in the first half makes him feel like more of a supporting star.

I just want to say.

I've not seen this movie, but with the trailers I think I already have. It looks like a carbon copy of every other "huge foreign battle" movie that's came out once a year or so since "Braveheart" did 15 years ago.

We've got our hero pumping up his army/companions by yelling in a deep, gutteral, exagerated accent, we've got the two large, opposing, armies runiing at eachother on horseback, clanging swords, and enough red-colored Karo syrup to open a Krispy Kreme. Oh and the cinematography has to be dark with lots of blues and grays (because, you see, they don't have color in England) and the movie has to be more damp than a Ron Jeremy movie.

I hated Braveheart and I hate even more all the copies that've came in its wake over the last decade and a half.

I've not seen it yet but want to as does my brother, we have plans to see it in a couple of weekends. We're both big huge Robin Hood fans. I've read that it has got some bad reviews, a friend of mine saw it yesterday and said she enjoyed it and thought it was a mixture of "Gladiator" "Lord of the Rings" and something else that I forget now. Seems like all of these "origin" type movies are being structured story wise like "Batman Begins" was now. Begins is now the standard for doing an an origin film...which isn't a bad thing if done right like "Sherlock Holmes". I am just hoping this doesn't suck.

Not my Robin Hood!

Crowe is a RHINO!!!

Neva Forget!!!

Edit: Is it just me or does that CosterHood's pic look a bit too much like my Baltar avatar? :guffaw:
