ROBERT RODRIGUEZ TO HELM "PREDATORS"... A FRANCHISE REBOOT!

"According to AICN, Robert Rodriguez is set to helm PREDATORS! Yes, that is the plural of the Arnold film and Glover sequel. Yes, Predator is coming back to the big screen without the Aliens of the Aliens vs. Predator "franchise". Rodriguez is saying that this will be a reboot of the franchise.
Rodriguez, in the 90s, wrote a Predator sequel script in which Arnold's character of Dutch is picked up by a Predator spaceship after the events of the first film, and brought to their homeworld. That script was also called PREDATORS, but obviously Arnold isn't going to star since he's busy as the Governator in California.
Interesting."

I'm in.

They need to find a way to get Machete in this movie.

"The Predators just fucked with the wrong Mexican."

I figured the rumours that he was going to remake the original movie were wrong. A reboot/ sequel is much more his style.

I thought the script he wrote in the 1990s was a prequel, set in the 19th century?

Oh well, yesterday I was lamenting the failure to make a 3rd proper Predator movie and the fact that the AVP series has been helmed by hacks. I'd rather have seen McTiernan make this, but a Rodriguez Predator movie beats anything that Paul WS Anderson has got his mucky hands anywhere near. My prayers have almost been answered.

Heh, I was just saying in the "favourite Predator movie" thread earlier this week that I'd most like to see Predators get made. There was a rival script at the same time (round about 1993/4) which would have featured Arnie and Glover getting shipped back to the Predator homeworld, but that wasn't Rodriguez's script.

Rodriguez' "Predators" was (at the time, and I hope it still will be) set in the Spanish Main of the 17th century - the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean, and would tell the story of how they came by the flintlock pistol they give to Danny Glover as a trophy at the end of Predator 2. The title being Predators wasn't just an Aliens-style pluralisation, but refers to the fact that it's Predators vs human predators, i.e. pirates.

I imagine the success of a certain trilogy has led to this one being dug up...

17th, but yeah, it was in a small way a prequel to Predator 2, but otherwise just a period-set standalone. Hopefully still is.

Rodriguez is a talented director. I like his style but I'm sick to death of all these reboots. Come up with some new ideas!!! Yes like they did in the 80s which is what the hollywood vultures are scavenging for. And also some decent theme tunes wouldn't go amiss. Compare 80s theme music with now. Some might mention LOTR but I thought the music was stale, it didn't evoke any reaction in me. However Total Recall's music is uber epic.

I'm interested, but I don't get why this can't just be Predator 3. A reboot isn't necessary.

I'm also wondering now that a seperate Predator movie is getting made a new Alien film might be in the works...

I know the lackluster performances of 3 and Resurrection means that many fans don't want any more entries, but why not introduce a partial reboot after Aliens while Sigourney Weaver is still able to play the character.

That would be my main interest as well.

Predator never really interested me. "Alien" is more my thing.
Bah! Aliens are BUGS plain and simple(However I love the first two films, TRUE MASTERPIECES!) but the Predators are so much COOLER!:techman:
