Robert Guillaume Dead at 89

Fucking cancer. Go away already.

I loved him in Soap and Sports Night, but somehow I never watched Benson. I clearly need to fix that.

Rest in peace, Robert Guillaume. Thank you for all of the hard-cutting laughs. :(
 
Really one of the best.. Comedic timing that others could only dream about... While Sports Night as a whole was a wonderful show, he was glue that held it together, even after the stroke... Damn... Such a wonderful entertainer. RIP, sir... :(
 
So sorry to hear this. Great actor. I saw him in a production of Phantom of the Opera playing the lead. Great singing voice. RIP.

I didn't watch many things that Robert was in (Benson, Sports Night, Lion King are the only ones that spring to mind) but damn if he wasn't always someone I was drawn to. He was effortless.

RIP. :(
 
Spent many an hour, as a kid, watching him in Soap and Benson. He had wonderful comic timing and a fantastic voice. I loved the scenes where Benson and Krauss would verbally spar.
 
I loved Soap, and to a lesser degree Benson when I was a kid. I thought he was fantastic in Sports Night.
He was also in one of my favorite movies, Seems Lile Old Times, with Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, and Charles Grodin.
A great actor with perfect comedic timing.
RIP Mr. Guillaume, you will be missed.

That's what I saw, it's always cancer. Can't it just be 'He didn't wake up one morning' and just be natural old age?

Oddly I have never really seen Soap but seen two episodes of Benson because my grandma was watching it recently. He was just as wonderful as on Sports Night. (He was my favorite character on Sports Night and that says something considering they are all wonderful.)
 
Have seen a little bit of Benson, but I really enjoyed his work on Sports Night. He totally owned any scene he appeared in on that show. It seems every Sorkin series has a characger like his that holds the rest of the group together (Leo McGarry in The West Wing, Sam Watterston as Charlie Skinner in The Newsroom, etc.).
 
It might seem obvious now, but having the black servant as the smart, functional, stable and above all most relatable observer of a well-off white household seemed pretty novel in the '70s. And I can't imagine anyone playing it better than Guillaume. He was always a pleasure to watch, RIP.

I didn't know that he played Rafiki, but the Lion King was one of my favorite movies as I was growing up.
