Robert Beltran to Star in The Devil's Advocate

He prefers stage to film or television.

I have a podcast on my iPod where he explains why, maybe I'll go back and listen to it.

I think most Trek actors do, don't they? I think that's kind of why they pick them for Trek in the first place - their faces become immediately recognized with Trek and not much else (not counting Mr. Bakula, of course.)

It most certainly seems like it. Shatner was a stage actor in Canada, I think. And Sir Stewart most definitely from the stage. I know Avery Brooks has some stage experience. And Kate of course.

Stage actors are some of the most underrated and the best. I think they're chosen for Trek because they're just good.

I hope this shut's up the haters that say that Beltran isn't finding work.

Trust me, I know. However some act like just because they don't see them on TV, they aren't doing anything or that being in stage productions isn't good enough work.

Yes, Avery is well known for his stage productions for portraying actor and activist Paul Robeson.
He also teaches drama classes at Rutgers University over here in New Jersey.

Agreed. It's annoying. He gets work. Just not on popular media a lot. And that's his choice. I'm sure he gets offers, but he says that he likes to audition and hates offers.

Yes, exactly. Once again too spite what haters say, Beltran is very serious about the job he does. That's why I still believe Ron Moore was the one that sold Beltran on doing Trek and when he left, Beltran got screwed. I think Beltran was expecting Voyager to turn out to be the production NuBSG was. Something more drama based and less technobabble sci-fi.

^^^^ Ron Moore had something to do with it?

I hadn't heard that. As far as I was concerned Ron Moore's only experience with Voyager came with the sixth season. He was busy doing DS9.

That's what I thought.

Anyway, there's already a thread for this.

Is it the stage play of that stupid horror thriller from the late 90s?

I don't normally post here because I despise "Voyager", but I had to so I could defend one of 'my main man' Al Pacino's movies. "The Devil's Advocate" is a damn fun flick. Keanu Reeves is a little stiff and out of his depth (as usual), but Al gave one of his better performances since '95 (hasn't had the best track record over the last 15 years). Yes, he and the film as a whole were a bit over-the-top, but I enjoyed them. He made a hell of a Satan, and the batshit special effects at the end were a delight.
