Rising Son question

I've begun to read "Rising Son" on Kindle and noticed that the Hunters are referred to as "ochshea". Would this be "hunter" in Tosk's language?

Re: Rising Son

This is the only Rising Son thread I found in an advanced search. I just started reading the book.

No spoilers (please), however, what did folks generally think/feel about the book? Is it liked around here?

I loved it. It was one of my favorite books in the DS9 Relaunch, and I would love to see a follow up with the Even Odds crew.
I'm still hoping the set up with Taran'atar following a distress call from them is followed up on somewhere down the line. Both because I loved the EO and because Taran'atar is one of my favorite characters, and I would hate to see him disappear completely.

That`s some praise for the book. Looking forward to going through it.

Well.... it`ll be a while before I read your spoiler for that other book.... :(

Firely in the Trekverse is a very good description.

I wonder if Jake ever wrote up his experiences on the Even Odds?

I really enjoyed it, both on its own merits and as a parallel to what was happening in Mission Gamma. In the latter, our Starfleet gang is out meeting new cultures in the Gamma Quadrant; in Rising Son Jake's out there encountering some of the species seen but not really explored on TV. And some big surprises.

He did indeed. Then he sold them to Federation Original Xenofilms, who turned it into a holoseries.

Which they then broadcast out of order and cancelled in half a season.

But they did follow it up with a movie that did didn't do so well on Earth, but quite well in the rest of the Federation.

I'm glad so many enjoyed the book. My hope is to wrap it up on the weekend. I haven't been able to get a good dent in it yet. I'm just at Chapter 2.

Honestly, Rising Son was one of my favorite stories.

Really hope the Even Odds makes another appearance some day.

I have such a tale of woe with that book. I got my first copy the day it came out (I was very into the DS9 relaunch), and got about halfway through it when I left it on the tube! So i bought another copy, got about 3/4ths through it and... left it on the tube!

Was starting to feel like I was not meant to finish it, so I've never actually read the last 1/4.

"Tube" means "subway," right? I was thrown for a second because in America, "on the tube" means "on television." So my first thought was, "if you left it on top of the TV, why not just pick it up?" :D

And see? That's just why the Star Trek Magazine should be full of British-isms. Because it would then confuse even its own writers!

But yes, "tube" is the subway, metro, underground train-thing, what-have-you.
