Sad news. He did such dominant, high-quality work in the '80s. Altered States, Body Heat, The Big Chill, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, The Accidental Tourist... So great at bringing a touch of odd humor to any role.
Aww no The last thing I'd seen him in was The Last Full Measure ( great movie btw) , in which he co-stars with Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Plummer, Peter Fonda, and Ed Harris. That makes three of these older actors that have appeared in this movie that have recently passed away.
He was in one of my favorite movies, The Accidental Tourist, as well as the Dune miniseries. I was just thinking about what a good performance he did in Gorky Park. I had always hoped he could play the detective again in the sequels.
His performance in "The Doctor" was outstanding, and his special appearance in "A History of Violence" was surprising and brilliant.
Very sad news. I recently watched the first season of Humans and really enjoyed his portrayal of a disabled scientist who has developed paternal feelings toward his synthetic carer. Also, he was the MCU's Thaddeus Ross.
Damn. And I just finally got around to watching 'Black Widow' last weekend. Thought he was a good 'Thunderbolt' Ross and I really liked him in 'Broadcast News' as the slightly clueless anchor.
^Yeah someone on Twitter posted some links after he died linking to Matlin's autobiography. Sounds like he didn't exactly deny it when it came out either.
