RIP - Tom "Click" Magliozzi

Tom Magliozzi of "Car Talk" a popular radio show on NPR, thats not produced new shows for a couple years now, died. The syndicated newspaper column still runs today.

Him and his brother, Ray, have been popular for over 30 years now with their witty humor and ways of helping people with car problems and car-related questions. Always providing callers, listeners and readers of their column a good dose of humor and education on cars, car-repair and car-related issues.

They also were featured in the first "Cars" movie as the Rusteze Brothers.

RIP, Tom. God's car is in good hands.

Aw, crap.

Their column in the paper was always entertaining - I know precisely Jack and Shit about cars, but they somehow made even the most obscure automotive maladies relatively easy to follow. And were hilarious in the process.

Is Ray going to continue alone now?

The show's been in reruns for a couple of years now. So I don't anticipate Ray going alone. And even if the show wasn't in reruns I can't envision ray doing it by himself. The appeal of the show was their banter. It would be like Abbot without costelllo

The syndicated newspaper column is currently still in print I suspect it'll continue until however many they make ahead of time runs out. I can't see Ray going forward alone not only do I suspect it'd be painful for him to do so in the wake of losing his brother, whom he worked so closely with for so long, but Tom was the larger part of the duo.

I may have to look into getting some of their "Best Of" CDs or something.

I suspect the 'reruns' will continue on NPR for some time. Hell, these guys are largely responsible for NPR being what it is today.

Grew up listening to those two, loved their humor and their interaction with the callers.

And that was their genius.

I don't know anything about cars, but loved listening to their show. They were hilarious! You could hear the genuine affection they had for the topic, the fans, and each other.

Tom died from "Alzheimers related complications" so it makes sense why the show has been in reruns for so long.

I am going to miss that warm, comforting, self deprecating, voice and that ready laugh.

I was heartbroken to hear this news yesterday. Both my girlfriend and I spent a lot of time driving by ourselves on Saturdays in recent years and Car Talk was easily our favorite thing to listen to whilst doing so, even all those years ago before we met.

They also were featured in the first "Cars" movie as the Rusteze Brothers.

Cars utterly failed to engage me in any meaningful way; for a long time I held the opinion that it was Pixar's worst film. I've not seen the sequel, nor any of the Planes films, so I've just decided that Cars just plain didn't appeal to me, but I do remember the Tom and Ray cameo and it did bring a big smile to my face -- of course Pixar would do that! Brilliant!

RIP, Tom. God's car is in good hands.

Well said. The best comment/tribute I saw on FB yesterday from a high school friend was simply "Don't drive like my brother!"
