RIP - The Rocky Mountain News

Less than two months shy of its 150th birthday, Denver's Rocky Mountain News published its last edition today.

The publisher, Scripps Howard, had been searching for a buyer for months. When none was found, the decision was made to hang it up.

The final front page.

I grew up in Denver and had a Rocky Mountain News paper route. From 1980 until my dad died in 2001 someone in our family (mostly dad) delivered the Rocky Mountain News.

The Rocky was also home to one of the best sports cartoonists, Drew Litton. Here's his final cartoon.

The Rocky's not the first, it won't be the last, but it sure is sad to see it go.

It's always sad when an institution disappears. Especially one that's been around for as long as the Rocky Mountain News.

It's a sad thing indeed. I've been a fan of the Rocky Mountain News since I was a kid. My parents always subscribed to the Denver Post, but the News was so photo oriented, and won numerous awards for their photography it really sparked my passion for photography.

Drew Litton is awesome and he is one of the few News staffers going over to the Post, but it'll never be the same.

Sigh. Sorry to hear this. It's always sad to see something like this fade into history. I'm oddly nostalgic for someone who looks to the future so much....

I always liked reading the News when I lived in Colorado (I read The Denver Post, too). It's sad to see it go. :(

I'm glad that Drew Litton will be at the Post, at least.
