RIP Senator John Glenn

Squiggy

FrozenToad
Admiral
The first American to orbit the earth died today after a brief illness. He was 95.

I had the honor of meeting him when I worked at NASA TV. Hell of a nice guy. Ed Harris' character in The Right Stuff was dead on.

I think we can blame the year for this death, even the amazing John Glenn couldn't survive it.

R.I.P sir.

Dammit another of my true Heroes has completed his final mission..

Thanks for posting the video, MANT!

My father worked in the aerospace industry, so I have lots of memories of the space program. Glenn, of course, and especially Wally Schirra. Schirra grew up in the same town as I. We actually had the same first grade teacher, he at the very beginning of her career and I just before she retired.

Rest in peace, Senator Glenn.

Lived a long life full of accomplishments. Hopefully they can take his ashes to orbit. Didn't they do that with Neil Armstrong?

I remember the news when he went up with Discovery. It was a big deal and I think the last time I remember a shuttle mission being a big story.

Godspeed Mr. Glenn. :(

Truly he was a giant-- not just for America, but for the world, and not just for the 20th Century, but for all time. A great explorer, a courageous adventurer, a tireless advocate. a humble public servant, a noble hero, and a shining example of humanity. When the aliens come and ask us to justify our existence, John Glenn is one of those people we can point to and say this is what we can be when we stop being stupid and selfish.

RIP, John Glenn. Thank you.
