RIP Ronnie James Dio

Well that's a serious kick in the balls.

:(

RJD is definitely going to be missed. Heavy Metal just lost one of it's most beloved and accomplished performers.

And here I thought he was getting better! :(

RIP.

I've seen him live a few years ago, when he played the entire Holy Diver album, a whole bunch of his other solo stuff and some Rainbow and Sabbath songs. He was 60+ and he sounded and behaved like a 30-year old on stage, giving a ~2.5 hour-long concert. A few hundred fans stayed after the show in order to get autographs and pictures with him and he did not leave until everyone who stayed got what he wanted.

He was a true heavy metal legend and he will never be forgotten.

I saw the Heaven and Hell tour in ummmmm early 2007? 2008? Either way, it was recent, and he still rocked the house like no one's business.

This just really sucks.

He was supposed to have been getting better.

First time I heard him was on 2 songs from a Kerry Livgren album (Seeds Of Change), and owned pretty much everything else he did after that at one time or another.

The Rainbow was my favorite stuff, him coupled with Blackmore, even if it was for too short a time.

Best heavy metal screamer of all time. And popularized the devil horns as THE heavy metal salute.

Damn. Didn't even know he was ill. Last thing I heard was the Heaven and Hell album.

Damn.

I was a big Rainbow fan back in the day, had all their albums. What a voice.

Damn.

Of all the divers I've known, his was the most *chokes up* holy.

He gone to see the Man on the Silver Mountain.

The 70's and 80's icons are dropping like flies...makes me sad.

So sad... :(
His was a unique voice in a genres where so many people sound the same. I saw him with Heaven & Hell a couple of years ago, what an amazing show.
My condolences to his family.
But, come on, who would have bet that Ozzy outlived Dio?

A damn shame. He was a great singer and wrote some great songs, even if you could affectionately parody his lyrics. And in interviews I always thought he came across as a genuinely nice man.

RIP Ronnie.

"In The City of Fallen Angels,
Where the ocean meets the sand,
You will form a strong alliance,
And the world's most awesome band.
To find your fame and fortune,
Through the valley you must walk.
You will face your inner demons.
Now go my son and roooooooooock!
"

Wrong song, Mutenroshi.

Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildebeests and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.
