RIP Maurice Hurley

Flying Spaghetti Monster

I'm not sure if he only directed TNG episodes, but in any case I'm posting this here because the episodes he did really set the tone for modern Trek. Indeed, he had a hand in the creation of the Borg.. he should be recognized here.

Sad to hear. Personally, although I grew up on TNG and still adore all of it to this day, in recent years I find myself far more interested in re-watching the two seasons he produced than the later seasons helmed by Piller. There's something unique and different about those first two TNG years that none of the other modern Trek captured.

I know that there were issues with him behind the scenes, particularly with regards to Gates McFadden, and I can't speak to anything about the man personally. But professionally, I think he was a great asset to Trek.

RIP, Mr. Hurley.

RIP Maurice Hurley.

It's becoming increasingly hard for me to accept the inevitability of the passing of the actors and writers of Prime Trek, as time continues to progress. I know my mother went through the same thing with TOS identities years ago as what I'm now experiencing with TNG/DS9/Voy - people getting older etc.

Sometimes internally re-living the conversation between Riker and Picard at the end of Generations, (about time indeed being a predator or instead a companion along for the journey), helps me a little.
