Margot Kidder, the actress perhaps best known as the colleague and love interest of mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent in the "Superman" movies of the late 1970s and early 1980s, has died. She was 69.

Kidder's death was first reported by TMZ but confirmed by the Franzen Davis funeral home in Livingston, Montana.

"The actress and activist passed away on Sunday, May 13th, 2018 at her home," the funeral home said. A cause of death was not given.

How sad.

As us geeks are wont to be, I'm way too attached to fictional characters, and Superman & Lois Lane are at the top of my list. And before even the comics, Margot was my first Lois. Despite her mental illness which fueled far too many mean-spirited tabloids and bad comedians, she had a very active and relatively successful life, so not only as an actress but also as a person she was very inspiring. I am deeply saddened by the news of her passing.

Very sad to hear. I'll confess, she wasn't my favorite Lois, but she was still good in the movies.

Enjoy the next stage, MK.

Aside from her grand role as Lois Lane, she created other memorable characters, such as Dominique Blanchion / Danielle Breton in Brian De Palma's Sisters (AIP, 1973). Wonderfully unconventional actress who will be missed.

:weep:

Also, as someone who's about to turn 61, all theses celebs dying in their 60s is making me nervous.

She's not one of my more favorite Lois Lanes, but she's still Lois Lane. Sad to see her go at such a relatively early age in this day and time. RIP.

Rip. That is too young to die

It is, but--and I say this in all seriousness--for someone who did as much cocaine (and God knows what else) as she did, making it to 69 is pretty impressive. I mean, Carrie Fisher only made it to 60, although I suppose her tox report revealed she was back on coke and heroin.

But still.

Princess Leia, Yeoman Rand, Batgirl and now Lois Lane.

It feels like my list of living childhood heroines is growing way to thin way too fast lately.

Hang in there Marion Ravenwood.

Margot was in a movie called Some Kind Of Hero with Richard Pryor. I always liked that movie. And of course the Superman movies.

"a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose"

Uhh... how many drug & alcohol overdoses aren't self-inflicted? Maybe I'm being ignorant here, but how can a coroner determine the difference between accidental overdoes & intentional suicide overdose? I have to assume it's all just based on what her daughter has said about it? Do we really know she intended to end her life with this?
