RIP John Severin

That sucks, his movie parodies were one of my favorite things about reading Cracked back in the seventies.

RIP

Aw, man, another great talent gone. He was a fantastic humor artist and, although I was never a big fan of Westerns, his art for Western comics was breathtaking.

RIP, Mr Severin. :(

Aw man, he was a legend! I was an avid reader of Cracked magazine for many years! Rest in peace, Mr. Severin.

Cracked over MAD? I always thought MAD was far superiour.

Anyway, most of the classic MAD crew are gone now. Al Jaffee is still with us.

His work on Sgt Fury is what I remember best. Very versatile artist, at home in many genres

^^ Yes, very versatile indeed.

Cracked was excellent back in the day. MAD may have been superior, but Cracked was nothing to sneeze at. Only the first year or so of Crazy exceeded it.

You are correct, sir. Crazy was the Chrysler, but at the beginning had its own style and content. I still remember some quip like "practicing the time-honored ritual of self-abuse" from that rag. It went downhill very fast after the first few years though...

Guys I am trying to remember if he was the illustrator of some of the star trek spoofs in Cracked- specifically TNG- one with TOS Movie Spock in uniform kind of narrating..... Fond childhood memories of that issue as it was the only one we had and was read and reread cause it was trek focused. RIP sir!

^^ I don't remember that one.

Yeah, it was amazing how bad it got after starting out so good. Obnoxio the Clown? :cardie:

I don't remember the specific ones you mentioned, but I remember clearly he did the cracked spoof of TMP.
