The inspiration for the book and movie "Charlie Wilsons War" has died at 76.

The Texas representative from 1972 until 1996 was a leading proponant of supporting the afghan fight against the USSR.

I met Good Time Charlie and his famous suspenders when I was stationed near East Texas. He was a funny bastard, and his constituents loved him. Had no idea the 'Liberal from Lubbock' was helping fight the Soviets in Afghanistan at the time! I have much more respect for him now than I did then. Sorry to see him pass on. Good man.
