ET breaks the news that comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business, and he had just finished his last HBO special in March, "It's Bad for Ya."

Noooo!
He was one of my favorites. He'll be sorely missed. :(

God, Tim Russert, Stan Winston, and now George Carlin. These past couple weeks have sucked.

Here's some salt in your wounds. This news just came out a few days ago:

George Carlin will be awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts said yesterday that Carlin will be honored for his 50-year career as a Grammy-winning stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. He will be the 11th recipient of the award. It will be presented Nov. 10 at a tribute performance televised by PBS. Kennedy Center chairman Stephen Schwarzman says Carlin makes people laugh but also makes them think. Carlin has released 22 solo albums and three best-selling books. Past recipients of the prize include Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, and Neil Simon.

Damn.

I remember my friend and I hiding in her basement to listen to his "seven words" album. (We were 13 or so and the parents would have killed us.)

Shit,
thats what I liked about his comedy it made you think!
R.I.P. George.

RIP Rufus/Shiny time station conductor

*sigh* looks like Jay Leno and others will have to pay tribute again after a week ago it was Tim Russert.

I admit that it's been 20 years since he has put out an album that I found funny (in the later years, his material got way too political and angry for my tastes) but he will always be one of my favorite comedians. Very sad to see him go. :(

Probably my favorite routine he ever did was the Indian Sergeant. I can't even quote it, it all depends on his voice.

RIP. :( I remember he did a show at my college freshman year--it was free to all freshmen and it was the first (and only) time I saw him perform. He was really funny.

Well if THAT doesn't suck.

Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits, fart, turd, AND twat! :(
