Wow. Just heard about it...RIP.
Rest in peace, Dick. You were even more awesome and influential than a lot of the artists you had on your shows. You'll never be forgotten. 
I know it was inevitable, but it's still sad. What I find amazing is how much of a trooper he was. He seemed to keep on going no matter what. What a guy. He'll definitely be missed.
My friend Marshall Lytle of Bill Haley & the Comets just informed me. Very sad news indeed. He was a real trooper keeping things going after his stroke.* I don't know if many folks really realize the impact he had on popular music with American Bandstand. He was also in charge of tons of game shows and awards shows, and even inherited the mantle of "Mr. Blooper" from Kermit Schaefer. He'll be missed. 
To get an idea of the influence this fellow had, try to count how many legends are on stage and in the audience in this American Bandstand Supergroup tribute to Bill Haley that Clark arranged for the 30th anniversary of AB back in 1981-82:

I grew up watching him host game shows and do the New Year's Eve countdowns. He was a great American icon and will be missed. R.I.P., Dick Clark.
New Year's Eve won't be the same without him. Rest in peace Dick.
Even with the Bandstand, game shows and Bloopers and Practical Jokes(which was the fore-runner for Ashton Kutcher and Scare Tactics), New years Eve will NEVER be the same for me. First Guy Lombardo now Dick Clark. 
One of my very first vinyl albums as a very small child was a Dick Clark "Greatest Hits" compilation of songs dating from the mid-50's to the early 70's. His face on the jacket of that double-LP set ingrained itself into my memory from a very early and impressionable age and I would go on to catch Saturday afternoon airings of AMERICAN BANDSTAND with one or both of my parents. Dick was a part of most American kids' lives of my generation as well as older and it's going to be a little weird imagining the music scene without his energetic, youthful presence.
Oh, no.
I really loved Dick Clark. He never got old. His body may have worn down over the years, but the real Dick Clark, the one inside, never aged a day. He was still vibrant and alive and sharp as a tack no matter how much time went by. I think part of me really believed he would live forever.
His influence on pop music and culture cannot be overestimated. It's doubtful there will be anyone like him ever again.
Next New Year's Eve will be a sad one indeed.

I feel so old tonight. Part of my childhood is gone. RIP, Mr. Clark.
First was introduced to him on the Pyramid game shows. I always thought he had a remarkable stage presence. Commanding, but never overbearing.
