I first noticed him in Foul Play (my favorite movie). I also remember him for Coccoon and Silverado (by far my favorite Western).

One of the great character/supporting actors of the last 40 years on both tv and cinema (equally effective in his occasional leading roles) and apparently an outstanding leading man onstage. He'll be sorely missed.
