Rings of Power S3/Hunt for Gollum Anticipation and JRR Tolkien Discussion thread

Yeah, that's crazy.
I'm sorry for bring in real world politics into this, but I was thinking earlier how I couldn't believe some like Pharazon could knowingly work with Sauron knowing who he is, but then I remember what's going on in the real world right now, and suddenly it didn't seem so unbelievable.

I seem to recall reading right when the show was first announced that Amazon was contractually obligated to produce all five seasons regardless of ratings or the success of the show.

Yeah, I remember that, too, but this is the first time we've seen anything about an exact penalty Amazon would have to pay the Tolkien estate if they canceled.

Christopher Tolkien must be rolling in his grave.

Even though I don't buy that report, there is a crucial difference between The Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time: with the latter, Amazon was only the distributor and a co-producer, whereas with the former, they're both the primary producer and the distributor.

Hope they do all of the seasons as they were planning. A few months ago I went back to the show and watched all of season 1 and 2. Glad I did.

Decided on listening to the audiobooks that done with Andy Serkis. Almost finished The Two Towers. I can wait to start "Return of the King", tomorrow at some stage.

This somehow slipped under my radar -- Elijah Wood has read and has praise for the script.

You know, I can't believe I didn't think to connect the dots about Elijah Wood just happening to be not only in New Zealand but at the old Hobbiton set for that wedding to the possibility of him appearing in The Hunt for Gollum.

Hmm, I'm curious how they're going to work all of these characters into this. The most likely possibility to me would be an opening set somewhere around the Lord of the Rings, with the rest being a flashback, similar to what we got in the first Hobbit movie. I'm also curious if they're going to recast younger versions of characters like Aragorn and Gandalf, or just digitally deage them for all of their scenes. Personally, I would make more sense to just recast at leas for the characters with a more significant role, but I could also see the appeal of having Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen as two of the movies leads.
