Riker Capt of the Odyessey?

Ever notice in The Jem'Hadar that the Oddy turns away to head for the WH w/the runabouts (nacelle going out) and then stops to get hit by the kamikaze Jem ship?

Good job FX crew, Ray Charles could have caught that one.

I always noticed that. It's a horrible shot, as far as shot continuity and battlefield tactics go, because we did see the Odyssey moving away, just before the death shot which makes it look completely still. Did the captain shout: 'Get us out of here Mr Chief Engineer, Warp 3', and then decide, 'Oh cancel that, lets just sit here and get our arses kicked'. Maybe all people in command of Galaxy class ships have to be tactical retards before they can get the job, with the exception of Picard, of course.

Weather The Odyessy stopped or not probably wouldn't have made a difference. The ship was badly damaged and fighting an enemy it knew nothing about. The Jem Had'ar were determined to make an example out of The Odyessy and they would have found a way to do it.

They weren't maneuverable enough to avoid getting rammed head on by a small nimble ship so Keogh probably ordered full stop/ full reverse in a desperate attempt to lessen the impact.

One of the very first things the fighters hit was the Odyssey's port warp nacelle. They weren't going anywhere very fast for a good while.

As well, the Odyssey was pretty much fighting the way we would expect the Enterprise-D to fight, by largely standing still firing a couple of very controlled phaser blasts. Clearly that didn't work, and the next time we see Galaxy class ships fight, both in DS9 and Voyager, battle tactics become more aggressive.

Anyway, I always thought to myself that the camera was following the Odyssey with matching speed when the fighter hit. Perspective in space is different than when you're on a fixed plane. But that's just my logic.

I blame the FX team. Same people I blame for forgetting just how awesomely well-covered for firepower the Galaxy class was designed to be.

Indeed. Even in the Dominion War, I wished the FX team took a page from Voyager and show the Galaxy's various arrays at work.

We never see the Galaxy's arrays behind the saucer and above and below the ship's aft in action, and we only got to see the pylon arrays fired in one episode (and even then, the way they were fired was itself an FX gaffe!).
