As I suspected, Rifftrax will take on Star Trek for their next release -due out next Thursday.

For those who may not know:

Rifftrax is a "pod cast" you play along with the movie, it's a commentary done by Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett of MST3K fame. During the run of they movie, a'la MST3K, the make wisecracks during the movie. You put in your DVD, the Rifftrax gives you a prompt on when to pause the MP3 and when to press play-again -usualy after some title card at the front of the movie. Downloading the Trax costs $4.

Should be a very interesting track! :)

Sweet! I'm still bummed I didn't get into their panel at Comic-Con this year summer.

I don't get it. If I wanted to hear fanboys making wisecracks, I can come to TrekBBS and get it for free. Why pay $4?
I have had my DVD for almost a month and rather enjoy it without the wisecracks, thank you.

Well, I wouldn't call them "fanboys" (though I suspect they're Star Trek fans) they're Professional Movie Riffers, never seen MST3K?

Yes, I used to watch MST3K years ago. They took bad movies and made fun of them throughout the movie. Star Trek is not such a movie, but if I wanted to hear someone make fun of it I would just come here and listen to the fanboys do it for free.

Well, to be fair, a lot of the movies Rifftrax does aren't "bad movies" this format just gives them a lot more freedom on which movies they can do and it's easier -and more profitable- for them to do movies that're readily available.

I've not been disapointed on a Rifftrax yet, even on the riffs they've done on the other Trek movies and other "good movies." They've shown time and time again a movie doesn't have to be bad to be riffed on.

You're right about that. However, I have to admit that I find the commentaries for the "bad" movies more entertaining. Did you listen to the commentary for The Room? It was fantastic.

Man, I don't know where I'd be if I couldn't make fun of things I enjoy.

Sounds way too serious a life.

I didn't. But "Titanic" is a movie I love and I laughed pretty damn hard at their Riff on it.
I'm watching/listening to it right now. I'm about half-way through and you're right, it's really funny. You really need to watch The Room. It's so unbelievably strange and awful that its entertaining without the riffs. With them it's perfection. I didn't think I'd stop laughing. I have the vast majority of the rifftrax commentaries and that one is my favorite.

You know I thought the same thing until I watched their riff of The Empire Strikes Back, I think it's a better riff than Twilight's riff, and I still think of Empire as one of the all time greatest films out there. So I think I will try Star Trek, though I still need to watch their riff's of Star Trek V and Star Trek VI.

Just a reminder bump.

Rifftrax will take-on Star Trek (2009). The Track is due out tomorrow, usually it goes up mid/late afternoon. Should be pretty funny. :)

I must admit I've never bothered with Rifftrax though I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I might give it a shot this time, we'll see.
It's a matter of being bored to sit down and hear the podcast. :alienblush:

My son got me into MST and Rifftrax--some of them are positively hilarious, while others aren't very good. I love the new STAR TREK and i'm looking forward to watching it and listening to the new Trax come Christmas, when my son comes in for the holiday. I love watching them with him. We laugh our butts off. Good times!

Even great films can be riffed on and made fun of. My high school buddy Jeb and I sat through a VHS copy of RETURN OF THE JEDI back in the summer of '92 and made ruthless, MST3K-style fun of the movie from start to finish. Ahhhh, good times.
