I think I'm going to like the this era's political ads lol, because this seriously has production values on par with the trailer for "2012 meets Captain America". Basically it opens up in Gotham City where once glowing Obama logos have become faded and destroyed--- then Rick Perry appears in a sparkling country and the world returns to vibrant color :D. Vote Perry: He'll be sure to use color saturation enhancement on America. :techman:

Also I'm not sure "America: The Last Great Hope of Mankind" is all that great for international relations, lol. I mean, sure, we were the only nation competent enough to defeat the aliens in Independence Day... but what of it? ;)
 
To steal a line from The Mighty Monarch, Rick Perry is at that stage in a man's life where he starts to look like somebody's aunt.
 
Without commenting on the message, I also thought the production value on this was pretty high. I thought it was very well put together and the editing was tight. As someone who video edits all day, I really appreciate the flow and smooth transitions. Very little I would change.
 
Having worked in broadcasting for nearly 30 years now, I've seen and heard lots of political ads. I gotta say, political leanings aside, Perry got his money's worth and more with that spot.

For theatrical and entertainment value,that was the best political ad I think I've ever seen. That will be an award winner for that production company, I betcha!

I think I'm gonna go watch it again!

My thoughts exactly. I couldn't help but admire the quality of this video and, ultimately, I think it will be an effective tool for some of his hardcore fans. Still, couldn't help but laugh out loud when the scene changed from dark and urban to golden fields of grain, shining American flags, an abrupt change in music from gloomy to hopeful and, yes, a galloping mustang :). Honestly, I love this video lol.
 
Wow...unless political ads are banned from the Super Bowl, this should've been a Super Bowl ad. Not only would the timing be perfect--as in literally RIGHT before the primaries start--because it could easily go up against the best of the Super Bowl ads. That is amazingly well done!
 
While Perry is insane and his policies would only fuck up America, the first half of the video was effective, if gimmicky. The second half was jingoistic nonsense but then again the people Perry is reaching for love that shit.

The next president will have a mighty task. Its a brilliant advert, actually, that tugs at patriotic heartstrings, but slick ads don't get my vote.
 
Perry can't be Batman. Batman has a code and doesn't kill criminals. Perry obviously has chosen a more bloodthirsty path. But hey, if the US is ever attacked by Rā's al Ghūl and the League of Shadows or has any other fictional problems, Dubya 2.0 will be the first one we call.

I love the patriotic ending there. Almost makes me forget all his talk of Texas secession not too long ago. Because apparently patriotism means sticking with your country until the elected leader does something completely legal that you don't like.

Besides, this isn't even original. Tim Pawlenty had the same type of ad, as did the President who sent those brave oil drillers up to destroy that asteroid.

I agree with this. The first half worked as a trailer for some kind of dystopic film. :lol: The second half just made me roll my eyes a lot.

So, executing 234 people (including minors before it was outlawed by the US Supreme Court, the mentally handicapped, the incompetently represented, and a likely innocent) gets an incredulous reaction to "bloodthirsty" and a proud thumbs-up, but allegedly dumbing down the news makes you question whether Brian Williams can sleep at night? Good to see you have your priorities in order.

What's the relevance of questioning his journalistic integrity in this circumstance anyway besides being a red herring? Does it change what was said in the video or the gleeful reaction of the audience?

Haha, in all fairness Pawlenty's ad was amateur hour compared to Perry's-- and the Armageddon speech pales in comparison to the president's speech from Independence Day. The only thing Rick Perry has even slightly impressed me on so far has been his defense of sending the children of illegal immigrants to college with instate tuition. Of course, that makes perfect sense when you consider Texas politics and a large Hispanic constituency; even so, it was nice to see him step of out is conservative caricature a short moment.

We'll see. Still supporting Obama whole-heartedly and have been staying afloat of the long political battle we'll be promised through my last year here in Japan (believe me, I have the free time to spare).

I laughed when it showed the shot of him in his flight suit, standing on the boarding ladder OF A PLANE HE NEVER EVEN FLEW.
 
I love good advertising, especially TV advertising. I find it intriguing to observe the emotional echoes it creates in audiences. Politics aside, this is a genuinely good piece of advertising, though it fades a bit in the second half because it's about 10s too long. But the first minute, minute-twenty? Top notch mood work, with an exceptionally clear and consistent message that frames the argument with exactly the kind of simple imagery and thematic resonance a political advert needs to have. To use cliche in such an effective way requires a rather deft touch. Only when it goes on too long does it become damaging to the message. If they'd ended when the jets fly over the kid, that would have been about the right length.

Does anyone know which agency did this? If they can adapt to the different kinds of advertising required at other stages of a campaign, Perry should stick to them like glue.
 
I have to disagree, Holdfast. When you talk about the length of the ad, I'm fairly sure that if that was mainly an Internet ad, length is less of a concern because those are marketed towards people who are willing to seek the ad out, such as people searching the candidate on YouTube or visitors to the candidate's website. It's more like seeking out a full-length movie trailer, than the little blurb you'd put on TV. If the ad had been on TV only, then I think your advice would've been a bit more applicable. (And you're probably making the clever suggestion by taking the "extra" length out of the positive stuff rather than the negative, because of what imagery tends to resonate more with people.)

As for Perry himself, I'm keeping an eye out but have not committed to support any of the Republicans yet. Unfortunately one of the people I was hoping would run (Huckabee) did not run, nor did my 2008 choice (Giuliani, who has the advantage of being militarily/fiscally conservative while being socially more moderate). I wasn't surprised that Huckabee didn't run (he seems too happy doing what he's currently doing to screw it up by getting in the mud of a presidential campaign), but it was still disappointing. That and sadly, I guess "nice" is not welcome in presidential politics. :( So, still waiting to see who can prove themselves.
 
Nice ad. Dramatic and good use of imagery.

Shouldn't it be Perry "for" President? He haven't even won the primary.
 
The production values are quite good, and the message is disturbingly powerful, if quite simplistic. If I were one to be swayed by fancy imagery, I might be convinced to vote for Perry. I hope Obama's people can counter ads like this one with others equally as stirring, because I greatly fear that the majority of my countrymen who vote will do so based on little more than such propaganda. Still, I must give credit to a very effective production.

On an only slightly related note, every time I see an image or a video of Rick Perry, all I can think of is Stormy Waters from Sealab 2021. And when I see an image of Romney and Perry side by side, all I can think is "I'm regular Stormy." "I'm bizarro Stormy."
