Revisiting an old friend

All in all, I think there is just a love-hate relationship between Voyager and its fans. It is like there is no middle ground, you either really like some episodes and really hate others.

Personally, I am indifferent to the bad episodes and the way Janeway sometimes acted all bi-polar. I just accept things the way they are and I just accepted things on Voyager. I'm can't see myself spending time worrying about how it could have been better, I am just grateful Voyager was around at all.

Of all the things that weren't good about Voyager, there were twice as many things that were.

^ Well, for me, there were several episodes I really loved like crazy, many episodes that I thought were well done and all that, but are not necessarily favorites or anything....a few (mostly ones in seasons 6 and 7) which I didn't really care for, but didn't hate...and in Voyager's case, 2 episodes that I really, really hated (Endgame and Flesh & Blood).

Not a bad track record, really. Not unlike any other show I've ever watched, in fact.

There is, after all, no perfect TV show. Even my two favorite shows of all time - DS9 and Babylon 5, had a few episodes that sucked huge in my opinion. I'm crazy for Buffy, The X-Files, Roswell...and other shows...but all had their stinkers.

Writers are people too...and not everything they write is always gonna be prefect when they are writing a series over the course of 7 years. I watch a show as long as the good episodes outweigh the bad...and I stop watching when the ratio flips in the other direction. I stopped watching ENT for 2 years because the ratio got too far to the negative, in my opinion. Went back later for season 4 and thought the show was much improved...and stuck around after that until the end.

But seriously - no one can expect any show to have a 7-year run of 100% perfect episodes. If a writer could do that, he wouldn't be writing for Star Trek very long. ;)

You are right here. What amazes me is that the fanbase is very split up, some like one aspect of the show and hates something else, some like the first seasons, some like the later seasons and there are many fans who are very dissapointed with certain aspects of the show and thought it could have been better in many ways but still we love the show and its characters.

I've seen people (including myself) arguing over certain things in the show and then rally together and defend it when some "outsider" jumps in an criticize it.

Voyager must have been something special! It did dissapoint and also annoy many fans but it's still loved by the same fans.

Amazing! :techman:

^Well, there's the whole:

This week on Voyager - Janeway refuses to violate Federation principles in order to save the lives of her crew.

Next week on Voyager - Janeway abandons her Federation principles in order to save the lives of some alien fungi.

 I know that's extreme, but it sure seemed that way sometimes. ;)

Better example, refusing to give the hostile Kazon technology but willing give the even more hostile Hirogen technology.

Telling the sick and dying Viidians that she will use "deadly" force if they come near Voyager or her crew again but going psycho when she finds out Capt. Ransom is killing aliens.

Telling Kes she has the right to choose if she wants to leave the ship but not allowing Seven the right to do the same.
