Review of the 11th First Episode

I am really liking the clip at the end.

I just have a feeling that five minutes is going to turn into several years!!!

Ooh, unbelievable! I could watch the clip despite not being in the UK. Hooray!

I was thinking the same thing...

Intriguing. Even though it was so short a clip, I now think I'm going to like the 11th Doctor. I was a bit skeptical after 'The End of Time'.

Lizo is basically a walking Doctor Who promotional tool. I don't think I've read anything negative from him.

The review itself seemed to be a bit reserved towards the new Doctor, though. It says about his interpretation of the character:

It's not instantly accessible, it's too complex for that. But it's often performances like this that can, as the series goes on, prove ultimately more satisfying.

Which doesn't sound quite enthusiastic. I was actually a bit worried when I read that, before I saw the clip.

I already really like Matt Smith in the role and I agree with the above posters about the 5 mins.

I dunno. To me that almost infers that if you don't like it, you'd be wrong and/or missing out.

Comes across to me as someone trying to be positive about a performance they didn't like (since they're not paid to be critical of BBC shows).

Since we know that Amy Pond grows up to be a police woman I am willing to bet that meeting the Doctor and his magical Police Box has something to do with her career choice.

I hope he's just suffering from some post-regen trauma and won't actually be a Tennant clone for the whole time.

Mmh, I thought it was actually quite positive. The only negative hint could be the possibly weak story they mention. But they say that it would be over-critical to point it out. The remarks about the humour and the one-liners make me optimistic. I'm rewatching Blake's 7 at the moment, which has all those awesome, quoteworty lines. I'd love that on Doctor Who.

That was my impression, too, but I'm not familiar with the author, so I might be wrong.

Just remember lots of people -- including reviewers -- hated Tennant at first (or, at best, were "underwhelmed). Also remember first episodes of new seasons have almost always been lesser than those that followed. Moffat doesn't want to score a home run and spend the rest of the season stealing bases, if you'll forgive the baseball terms.

I'm not reading the reviews as I want to avoid major spoilers. But short of someone coming out and saying "don't watch it!" there's nothing going on that surprises or concerns me. It took about 4 episodes for people to warm up to Tennant. For some people they didn't warm up to Eccleston until the end of his season. Tom Baker wasn't an instant smash, either. Nor was Jon Pertwee.

The reviews are pretty irrelevant, anyway. The BBC has committed to renew the series for next year, so its future is secure.

Of course any sports analogies need to be of the cricket variety for us colonials (and 5th Doctor fans). To translate -

Moffat doesn't want to hit a six and spend the rest of the season sneaking singles.

Aaaahh thanks for the translation.
Silly Americans, if it were up to them we’d be getting everywhere in high-speed motorbike chases. ;)

I’ve got to say that I like this clip and it is perhaps the first show so far that makes me interested in the new doctor, perhaps because this is the first time we really get to see him in action. Either way, even though I was always going to tune in at least for the first one, I am now looking forward to doing so.

I gotta say I'm looking forward to this...

Lets face it, he's far too dorky for it to even sound cool, so it'll just probably be funny!
