Revell Maquis Fighter Completed!

This model was very easy to build up and glue. The hardest bit was attaching the 2 wings as I didn't realise they woudl have to slot into the main hull (until it was too late)! Thank goodness for G-Clamps.

I spoke to the guy in the local modelling store, as I was keen to buy some weathering "make up" type paints. He advised against it, instead to go for watered down grey, black etc and a flat brush. I read up some techniques and went for "dry brushing". On the underside of the hull, in the center, there is a dark gray bit:

I was delighted to make this look like bashed up/worn metal.

Any help on the impulse engines to make them less "glow red" and sparkly, would be appreciated:

Overall, I was really happy with this model (I didn't hold out much hope that it would look ok!) I used Tamiya spray can for the base and Tamiya paints for the detail. Luckily, no decals were required (I'mn still crap at doing that).

Any other advice on how to improve the look would be appreciated! Am glad I saved the £7 and just used the paints for an "atmosphere entry" workhorse, look.

I like your buildup of this kit!
One thing you might want to consider is to add some scorch marks and a couple of minor hits to the hull- this model loos factory fresh and the Maquis live a hard life, exchanging weapons fire and having to repair things while on the run. Give it a bit of history visually and it would be perfect IMO...

I think you did a fine job. The color pallet looks very much like how actual TNG+ Star Trek studio models were painted. I think your actual brush work could stand to be a bit cleaner, but the overall look is fantastic.

There are some more advanced painting techniques to make the red areas look more like a glow. Then there's actual lighting, which seems like it's probably too late for.

But, yeah, you should be pretty proud of how this turned out.

Nicely done. Like @Albertese said, looks like the filming miniature.:cool::cool::cool:

How big is that kit physically? I've only ever seen the little Maquis Raider that came in a snap together kit with Voyager and a Kazon Raider, about 4 inches long or so each.

It's about 40cm wide, by 35cm nose to thrusters.

Anyone able to point me to a guide on how to do blaster hits and the red glow?
