A couple of threads discussing the same episodes. As I said in the other one about Parallax

Parallax was standard Trek anomaly stuff which I don't really mind. My only issue with it was the whole, lets make that unqualified, didn't get through the academy, Maquis rebel the person responsible for the ships most important element

Chakotay makes sense due to his Starfleet credentials and sure even B"Ellanna makes some sense based on her natural abilities but not this early on in the show. She and Carey should have spent season one competing with each other. Both submitting ideas for each anomaly, improvement, solution etc. Then Carey should have been the one to recommend B'Ellanna as the more gifted candidate and then the two of them should have become good pals (maybe even leading to more Carey appearances)

Good episode as such.

My main complaint about it is that the original stardate is wrong. Stardate 48439.7 would put the events in the episode about one and a half month after the events in "Caretaker" and it wouldn't take that long to find out that holodeck energy is different from the rest of the ship or to found a new Chief Engineer. Personally I took the liberty of changing the stardate to 48339 which would put the events in "Parallax" about a week after the events in "Caretaker".

I also think that B'Elanna became "tame" a little bit too quick, I would have had that process going for two-three episodes.

The thing with Carey is alittle bit weird. She almost kills him and then all of a sudden they are best buddies. I mean, if I had been Carey I wouldn't have worked for someone who almost killed me. The writers should have omitted that whole scenario.

Otherwise a decent episode. OK, the whole anomaly thing was a bit weird but it wasactually exciting here and there.

I'll give it 3 points out of 5.
