During a recent trip to a nearby Toys R Us, I stumbled upon a new toy line: Retro-Action DC Super Heroes action figures by Mattel. With MECA's recent revival of Mego-style Star Trek action figures, DC and Mattel jumped in on the bandwagon by releasing an initial wave of five figures which are highly reminiscent of their 1970s Mego counterparts. The first wave consists of Superman, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Sinestro. I bought a Superman and a Lex Luthor, and I opened Lex Luthor. The joints are somewhat loose, but I'm getting a real kick out of the Mego-but-not-Mego styling of these toys.
Now I'm wondering if RA Superman's S logo will peel off of his outfit as easily as it did on my Mego figure from when I was a kid. I think that figure's logo peeled off during the first day!
If you're a '70s or early '80s action figure buff, then check these things out. They're a lot of fun.
