Restored 35mm Episode IV created

You mean "without"

Lucas's blessing doesn't count for anything anymore and Disney likely knows this is a niche that won't actually have any impact on their bottom line (much like the other fan edits out there). Hopefully they will see the demand for an original theatrical cut and respond in kind with an official release sooner than later though.

yes I meant without an have corrected the original post.

Given the way Disney merchandised TFA I can see them released a version of the original that hasn't been edited etc in order to squeeze every penny than can out of the fans.

Actually, doesn't George Lucas still own the rights/original prints for Episode IV? IIRC part of the deal with disney allowed him to keep the rights or something to that effect of the original star wars movie

Fox own the rights for Episode IV until, and I believe this is on the actual contract, the day the Earth blows up

I was under the impression they only have the distribution rights in perpetuity. Which basically just means they get a cut but have little to no say in things beyond that.

I wonder how they were able to obtain a complete 35mm film print.

I thought distribution of such prints was tightly controlled by TPTB, though I've read that there are bits and pieces of SW '77 on 35mm floating around out there.

We are a year away from the forty anniversary. Who knows what Disney and Lucasfilm (or Fox for that matter) will do.

Only that Episode VIII will come out later that year, and Rogue One will be out on BD around the actual anniversary.
