Rest in peace, Curtis Hanson

His little trilogy of LA Confidential, Wonder Boys and 8-Mile is a great set of styles, tones, textures and ideas. Few directors could hope for such talent.

It took him nearly 25 years to really get going in the industry and put out little balls of tension like The Hand that Rocks the Cradle and The River Wild before slamdunking with LA Confidential, which is still probably my favourite film of the '90's and is certainly the best novel translation I have ever seen (if you haven't read James Ellroy's labyrinthine opus then treat yourself, and then marvel in what Hanson and Helgeland did to make that monster into a film).

A great loss, but I am aware he has been suffering from Alzheimer's and other ailments since 2012.

2016 continues to kick film and music fans in the balls.

Hugo - Go back to Jersey, sonny. This is the City of the Angels, and you haven't got any wings.

This is a surprise. "L.A. CONFIDENTIAL" is one of my all time favorite moves . . . ever. RIP, Mr. Hanson!
