Remember how originally Jack was meant to die in the pilot?

biotech

Vice Admiral
Admiral
And be played my Micheal Keaton, and the whole point was to kill off the seamingly main character so you knew noone was safe?

If they hadnt changed that would it have been Sawyer down in the cave?

Hmm I don't recall the Michael Keaton casting, but that would have been interesting. Sawyer or Kate I think. If he had died early on. I'm not sure I'd see the man of science vs man of faith dichotomy work as well with anybody else. Given they weren't gonna introduce somebody similar to Jack

From the things I've seen and read about the development of the show, it probably would have been Kate. After they killed off Jack she was going to become the de-facto leader of the Losties.

Then again, without Jack it's tough to tell if we would have ended up here at all since even given that scenario Kate's backstory was going to be basically the same as it turned out to be.

I'd assume if it had been Kate then the arc would have been more of one of redemption. They would probably have made Kate's past a lot worse then it was. Some real bad stuff and then the whole thing would have been her overcoming her "evil" and "selfish" history and becoming a leader and a hero then eventually dying to save everyone else (and the world) a total opposite action from what she normally would have done before crashing on the Island.

I've read numerous times that TPTB were going to make Kate the leader, and she was intended to be 40-something, not 20-something.

I would have loved to see Michael Keaton in Lost! Too bad they didn't cast him as a character later on.

Cast someone more along the lines of Elizabeth Mitchell in the role and make the character a smart, cold-blooded career criminal and not just an idiot with no impulse control, and I could see that working great.

Yeah, Kate was originally supposed to be the lead. She was also supposed to have Rose's backstory, not a criminal at all, but a middle-aged woman whose husband died/disappeared in the crash.

There was also originally no Hurley, Sun or Jin until the actors auditioned and the producers decided to make up roles for them. So the show would've been quite a bit different had they stuck to the basic original plan.

Yeah the actress cast would have to be a good one, to be pitted against TOQ for 6 years.
