Remake Mnemonic memory circuit into stone age electronic calculator

Remember Spock Mnemonic memory circuit?http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Mnemonic_memory_circuit. Well we are questioning whther\

We were wondering if anyone would be interested in chatting about how to make an Electronic Calculator if you were transported back to the Stone age and you could only take this manual.

here is a list of other building requirements.
1. It has to be electric. No abacus's, slide rules, mechanical calculators, differential engines etc.
2. It has to be easily transportable in the wild so no big machinery.
3. has to be built by one person.
4. we must assume that this person has not tools.
5. we must take into consideration that this person needs to survive in the wild as well.

This thread is meant for people who want to try to make the manual not those who want to talk about whether it is possible or why to make the manual. If you would like to have a discussion about that please create another thread and link. This is meant to be fun... and meaningfull.

Re: Remake Mnemonic memory circuit into stone age electronic calculato

Considering the first electronic computers were the size of a small house and could barely add, subtract, multiply and divide and this was seventy years ago I'd say it's not possible.

The Mnemonic Memory Circuit was my favorite part of that episode. :)

It would be impractical to build any electronic computational device prior to the availability of switching transistors.

Batteries are possible. There was a report last week about batteries that were dug up from ancient egypt I think it was. So did pharaoh have an ipod?

On the old paintings, in the tomb they do the sand dance, don't you know?

Re: Remake Mnemonic memory circuit into stone age electronic calculato

^Yeah, if you are talking about what I'm thinking of. However, I believe they had a very low voltage compared to batteries used for calculators... I'd imagine you would have to be very well versed in chemistry, etc to make a powerful one than they did back then.

Any calculator, whether large or small, is not the work of one person. Hence 3 makes no sense.

If this person knew how to make components like transistors, maybe. But a display screen would be tough to make, even using LEDs.

Meh.
